Getting Your Berkeley Drivers License? – Consider Virtual Reality Simulators
Virtual reality is a new technology that has not just been tested for games, but considered as well for use by drivers. Many students who are working towards getting their Berkeley drivers license are currently utilizing this technology.
Through the use of this technology, individuals are given a chance to master some skills and competencies related to driving, without worrying about the actual dangers and challenges that come with the roads. Just like the popular video games focused on cars, the use of virtual reality on cars will allow the student drivers to learn the skills while having fun at the same time.
The great thing about this approach is that during the learning process, the student driver will not be placed in a situation where he cannot handle the road problems and challenges. Through the use of VR, the student driver can practice certain skills and approaches in a predefined and controlled environment. This approach is extremely helpful for drivers who are expected to operate trucks and other complex vehicles.
More companies now using VR for their drivers
Today, a number of companies are now using VR as a tool to educate and train their employees when it comes to driving. Just recently, UPS has announced that it will be using this technology to train and empower their employees. According to the news, the company will be deploying VR to help their drivers operate complex vehicles, including 10,000-pound trucks. It is the belief of the management that by incorporating this technology, they can transform their drivers into competent and safety-oriented drivers.
Once the technology has been deployed, the employees and drivers will be given virtual reality tests and exploration of the city environments. It is expected that they will sense and identify hazards that will be shown on the screens, and they have to shout ‘hazard left’ if they can find hazards on the left side. Based on the plan, the test for drivers will run for 3 to 6 minutes. It is the intention of the management to develop a new group of drivers who are conscious of their environments, and know how to scan the environment for potential problems and hazards.
What makes this custom driving lesson different is the inclusion of a high concentration of hazards, which are often not seen and encountered in real life driving lessons. For example, the test will show a ball rolling in front of the driver. This is meant to help drivers instantly spot a child that may suddenly run to the center of the road. The same VR test will also train drivers on how to scan the environment for trees, buildings and billboards that may obstruct their views.
In short, the use of VR technology is designed to help prepare the drivers for the real world of challenges and hazards. It is expected that in the near future, more companies and organizations will follow the lead of UPS when it comes to training aspiring drivers. There will come a time when VR tests and training modules will become part of an effective driving lessons for aspiring drivers.
