Below we share several defensive driving facts that few drivers know!
What is a defensive driving school?
These companies are tasked with teaching students to become better drivers Decades ago it wasn’t a requirement to take defensive driving, but it is now. Before you get your license, you must successfully complete one of these courses. Some companies make you come into the classroom, while others allow you to take courses online. Whichever you choose, you should learn how to navigate stressful situations from behind the wheel of your automobile.
How do you find a defensive driving course?
If you have a teenager in school, your high school might already have defensive driving classes. Or, you can ask around to see which companies other parents have used. We recommend that you do a quick internet search to see reviews of these programs. Although it may seem convenient to have your teen take defensive driving at school, this can be distracting with several students in the car. At Bill’s, we only let one student in the car with our instructors. We want our students to be solely focused on the road while they are taking driving lessons.
Why do most people take defensive driving?
Originally, adult drivers took defensive driving to improve their driving records. If you are in an accident, or have a moving violation, your insurance can increase. Taking defensive driving will give you a discount on your auto insurance. Defensive driving can also remove points from your license. If your license has been suspended, you’ll also need to take a defensive driving course before they will reinstate it. Finally, teenagers must take defensive driving before they can receive their license. The risk of accidents decreases after successfully taking a course, so it makes sense that teenagers should be required to have some education about driving.
Do I have to go to a class?
No, not always. With some of our courses, we allow you to take defensive driving online. It can be difficult to get back and forth to class when you don’t have a license. You can pay a small fee, enroll online, and print out your certificate when you’ve completed the class.
